Description
Dal Tadka is one of the most comforting Indian meals. The rich ghee tempering prepared with Desidhara A2 Ghee enhances the aroma and transforms simple lentils into a flavourful dish.
Ingredients
- 1 cup toor dal
- 1 tbsp Desidhara A2 Ghee
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 3 garlic cloves (finely chopped)
- 1 dried red chilli
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tomato (chopped)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves
Instructions
1. Cook the Dal
Wash the toor dal thoroughly and pressure cook it with turmeric and salt for about 3–4 whistles. This softens the lentils and creates a smooth base for the dish.
2. Prepare the Ghee Tadka
Heat Desidhara A2 Ghee in a small pan on medium flame. Once hot, add cumin seeds and allow them to crackle, releasing their earthy aroma.
3. Add Garlic and Spices
Add chopped garlic and dried red chilli to the ghee. Sauté until the garlic turns slightly golden and aromatic.
4. Cook the Tomatoes
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften and blend with the spices. This adds mild tanginess and depth of flavor to the tadka.
5. Combine Dal and Tadka
Pour the prepared ghee tempering over the cooked dal and mix gently. Let it simmer for 2–3 minutes so the flavors blend together.
6. Garnish and Finish
Top the dal with freshly chopped coriander leaves. The vibrant herbs enhance both the aroma and presentation of the dish.
Serving Suggestion
Serve hot with steamed rice, jeera rice, or freshly made rotis.
